Susan Phalen was born and lived in Texas her whole life prior to moving to Australia. She holds a BSc in Biology from Midwestern State University, a MSc in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from Texas A&M University, and a MDiv from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
Susan was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2005. While in Texas, Susan served the church as a hospital chaplain at The Methodist Hospital, Texas Medical Centre, Houston, Texas and at St. Joseph's Regional Health Center, Bryan, Texas. She was also a parish associate of First Presbyterian Church, Byran, Texas.

Susan moved to Australia with her Husband David in 2006. Prior to her current placement as minister of St. Andrew's Uniting Church, she was the minister of Moss Vale Uniting Church and a chaplain with UnitingCare Ageing at Edinglassie Village in Emu Plains and Edinglassie Lodge in Penrith. Susan has worked and taught extensively in the areas of pastoral care, grief and bereavement, and critical incident response. She has been a chaplain with the NSW SES and is currently a chaplain with the NSW Disaster Response Chaplaincy Network. Susan is certified in Advanced Group Crisis Intervention and is a member of Crisis Intervention Management Australasia.

THE ORGANISTS
Prior to coming to St. Andrew's, Matthew Breaden was assistant organist at St Paul's in Bendigo, Victoria, and also Holy Trinity in Kew, Victoria. Matthew is an accredited music teacher with Yamaha Music, and a registered music therapist, and also performs as a solo pianist, and with orchestras and small ensembles.
